The OUT IN THE STREETS book is composed of insightful essays and celebrated photography that explores the untold history of graffiti and street art as a tool for queer activism through the personal stories of a global community of artists.
For a decade, Daniel Albanese conducted in-depth interviews with pioneering activists of the last half-century who explain the history of street art and graffiti in the Queer Liberation movement, as well as contemporary street artists who share personal stories of survival, coming out, gender expression, and using creativity to fight the increased threat of violence and backlash against LGBTQ+ rights.
The project includes subjects from 17 cities across 9 countries—United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Italy, and Singapore.
